For those who believe that buying original art, particularly in the current economic climate, is a luxury too far it’s time to think again.In the spirit of the season, the Windjammer II Gallery is offering the disbelievers and art lovers, of course a golden opportunity to bypass the freebie commercial calendars and acquire something of quality and value with which to deck the halls for years to come.A small army of well-known Bermuda artists some 30 in all have been hard at work preparing small paintings especially for the Christmas market. So rise up, all ye homespun Santas. It’s time to be creative just as the artists have been.‘Good Things Come In Small Packages’ is the title of Windjammer II’s multi-media Christmas exhibition.“About 30 of our gallery artists have prepared a very diverse collection of small paintings which are going to be very affordable,” gallery owner and professional artist Sheilagh Head said. “There will be something for every taste and pocket.”Timely small painting shows have been held in the past and have proved extremely popular, but Mrs Head proudly revealed that this year’s show is the biggest ever, both in terms of the number of participating artists, and the quantity of paintings produced.“They all wanted to participate in this show, which is very nice, and they have produced between four to six pieces each,” Mrs Head said. “Also included is some of Milton Hill’s beautiful cedarwork.”Some artists, like Ami Zanders, are taking part for the first time. Among the more well-known are Diana Amos, Stephen Card, Michael Cacy, Rhona Emmerson, Chris Grimes, Emma Mitchell, Alexandra Mosher, Chris Marson, Nicholas Silk, Diana Tetlow, Dean Walker and Sharon Wilson.‘Good Things Come In Small Parcels’ will open to the public on December 9.
