Artists get into the spirit of the age
What happens if a few artists sit around talking, and the idea comes up of doing a show, then someone dares them to go ahead and do it?
If their names are Keitha Bassett, Carolyn Boatman, Ian Boatman, Grant Farqhar, E.C. Fearchar, Gabrielle Fernandes, Susan Wakefield Gibbons, Sabrina Powell and Ami Zanders, the next thing they know is that space has been booked at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA), they've given their group and their show a title, and then gotten busy creatively.
Thus it is that the Eclectic Collective is opening its first show in Studios A and B of the BSoA tonight, and it will continue through April 7.
Entitled 'Zeitgeist, Spirit of the Age', the mixed media event will have "a little bit of everything", according to Ms Zanders.
"There will be lots of colour, movement, and a bit of the unexpected," she said. "We wanted an excuse to make art, and have a show that wasn't based on a theme or a particular style. We just wanted to create for the sake of creating.
"Then the three of us contacted people that we knew, who we thought might be interested in doing the same thing. So we've been pushing each other and encouraging each other. The whole process has been very therapeutic, fun, and nerve-wracking at the same time."
