A leading soccer coach is arriving in Bermuda early next month to offer local coaches a refresher course and reassessment of the English FA International Licence.

Chris Ramsey, who played for Brighton in the English FA Cup final against Manchester United before moving on to coach the England Under-20 national team, will be conducting the course on the weekend of May 1 and 2 at Saltus Grammar School.

It?s expected that all of the Bermuda coaches who currently hold the International Licence will attend.

A number of the Island?s leading coaches and players took the last course, including Andrew Bascome, Kentoine Jennings, Paul Scope, Kenny Thompson, Mark Trott and Mark Wade.

After playing at the top level, Ramsey has enjoyed an outstanding coaching career and is currently head coach for the Charleston Battery in the US ?A? League, having led that club to their first ever ?A? League National Championship.

Before moving to the US, he was regional director for the English FA, head coach of the England national under-20 team, leading that side to the 1999 World Cup Finals in Nigeria and also assistant coach of the England Under-16 team at the 2000 European Championships in Israel.

While with the FA he was a scout for the senior national team under Kevin Keegan and later an assistant coach at Luton Town.

Ramsey holds a UEFA coaching ?A? licence and a Football Association Coach Education diploma and also a diploma in the treatment of sports injuries as well as a degree in Education and a Masters degree in science.
