A commitment to family and community
Former prominent Bermudian lawyer died on October 29, 2005 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts with his wife of 47 years and his two daughters beside him.
Mr. Vaucrosson successfully underwent surgery to repair his heart and a triple bypass on October 24 but died five days later with liver and kidney complications.
As a young man Charles was educated by Millie Neverson and at the Berkeley Institute in
Bermuda. He also attended Queens Royal College in Trinidad as well as Pickering College in Ontario, Canada.
He obtained his BA with Science Options at the University of Western Ontario, Canada and qualified as a Barrister at Gray?s Inn in London, England.
As a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a Significant Sig, he constantly sought to achieve true friendship, equal justice and the fulfilment of learning as part of his overall responsibilities to his community.
He accepted responsibility for his successes and failures, always seeking to instil this in each of his children and their families.
Charles returned to Bermuda with his young family in 1963 and soon established himself both professionally and in the local community through his involvement in various high profile cases and charitable associations, sportand recreational clubs such as the Hamilton Lions Club. The Bermuda Bridge Club, Prison Fellowship, Pembroke Hamilton Club and the Bermuda Girl Guides Association.
He proudly represented Bermuda in a number of international and world bridge championship and as a member of the Lions Club.
Always a sports enthusiast, in his younger days he participated in a number of team sports, notably varsity wrestling, cricket and shot put.
In his later years, he was perhaps better known as an avid fan, watching his favourite teams and athletes perform on TV or listenening to them on his little transistor radio.
Born in Pembroke, Bermuda to the late Anna (Boland) Vaucrosson and the late Arnold
Vaucrosson, Charles is survived by his wife Margaret (McDonnell) Vaucrosson, four children, Norma A. Nielsen, M. J. Randolph Vaucrosson, Melanie C. Claude and Andrew C. L. Vaucrosson and their spouses Laetitia, Oonagh, Paul and Nita, 12 grandchildren: Katrine, Calvina, Jason, Samantha, Alexander, Daniel, Payton, Kristen, Timothy, Spencer, Dhillon and Quentin: sister Barbara Mayfield; nieces and nephews Michael Thrane, Dorian Nixon, Antoinette Mayfield, Thomas Arnold Mayfield, Jr. and wife Elaine; great nieces Kevana, Keisha and Lauren; in-laws Ret. Lt. Col. Thomas Mayfield, Mary Crehan Thrane, Anthony Michael McDonnell and John Paul McDonnell; friends Kim and David Day, Patta Amagowich, other nieces, nephews, relative and friends .
He was ?Uncle Charles? to the Mayfield family and ?Uncle Chuck? to the McDonnell and Thrane families.
His commitment to his family and the sentiment shared by all of us is reflected in his granddaughter Katrine?s words: ?Idon?t miss grandpa. I know he is always with me (even in death), but I do miss the moments together we won?t have, and and the things he used to do. But remembering . . . remembering is like a gift to myself.?
Charles? spirit, sense of humour and love for life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Monday November 7, 2005 at 2.30 p.m. at St. John?s Church in Pembroke.
