Car stolen three weeks ago, frustrated man turns to public
Frustrated by the theft three weeks ago of his mother's car, Devonshire man Mr. Gerald Young has turned to the public for help.
"I have been in touch with the Police on a daily basis,'' Mr. Young said yesterday.
He added: "The Police have said that normally cars are stolen and recovered within a week.'' The white Suzuki 800cc, registered 06994, was removed from the locked garage at Mrs. Violet Young's home in The Lane, Paget.
"The thief broke in through a side window and hot-wired the ignition of the car,'' said Mr. Young, of Cavendish Heights, yesterday.
The April 16 theft was discovered the following day.
Mr. Young pointed out he and his mother were registered as joint owners of the vehicle.
"I consider it, however, my mother's car,'' he said.
Mr. Young said the car was bought ten years ago for $5,400, and was in good condition.
"It's a great loss,'' he said, adding that he used the car on Sundays to take out his mother, who resides at a rest home in Pitts Bay Road.
Asked what may have happened to the car, he replied: "It could have been repainted since the theft, stripped, or ditched overboard.'' According to Police statistics, reported cases of removed cars in recent years numbered: 45 (1990); 31 (1991); 27 (1992); and 38 (1993).
