Hotels hit for six by Zebras
Even an understrength PHC team was far too strong for struggling Hotels last night in the Friendship Trophy as young front men Kenny Mills and Shawn Simons led a 6-0 rout with two goals apiece.
Hotels, who lost 3-0 to the Zebras in their earlier meeting this season, slumped to their worst defeat of the season as the young Zebras outfit ran their opponents ragged.
The home team led by just one goal at the half on 22-year-old Mills' 11th goal of the season in the eighth minute, after a good cross from the left side by Shawn Simons saw the ball blocked and Mills score from close range past keeper Gladwin Edness.
Both teams were missing key players but Hotels missed defenders Philip Smith and Frank Greaves more than PHC missed the likes of Sammy Swan, Sheridan Ming, Frank Ming and Winston Trott as their young front line of Simons, Mills and Michael Trott gave Hotels early nightmares with their speed.
Even so, only an awkward bounce in the 13th minute denied Hotels a sure equaliser when Vincent Chaves laid on a good chance for Hill in front of goal but he made a mess of his shot as the ball took a funny bounce.
Hotels' biggest threat came from a couple of inswinging Chris Sabir corners in the first half while at the other end Simons and Ottis Steede both went close with shots after the Hotels defence had been penetrated.
Then Dana Rawlins poked a shot from six yards straight at Edness in the 40th minute before winger Coolridge Bell gave Ty Williams something to think about at the half with a scorcher two minutes later which brought off a good reflex save from the keeper.
However, it was the Hotels goal that was under seige in the second half as PHC hit them with two goals in the space of four minutes early in the second half to put the match in the bag.
Trott scored a simple goal from a rebound after a long ball into the Hotels penalty area by Williams set up the chance in the 49th minute.
In the 53rd minute it was 3-0 when after a Mills collected a wayward shot from Blake Simons following a freekick and turned and beat Edness from the left side of the box.
The home team never eased off the pressure, obviously intent to score as big a victory as possible, and the best goal of the night came in the 66th minute when teenage defender Dano Outerbridge made it 4-0 with a brilliant diving header at the far post to a Shawn Simons corner on the right side.
PHC had the luxury of being able to give Chris Belboda a run in goal for the last 23 minutes of the match while Hotels chose to bring on front man Troy Bassett for injured defender Derek Bell in the 69th minute. Clifton Anderson had come on for Coolridge Bell at the start of the second half.
Simons, always a threat up front with his speed, had an effort ruled out for offside before he responded by scoring the last two goals in the 78th and 80th minutes.
The tough-tackling Scott brought down Mills after he streaked through on the left in the 78th minute and Simons drove his spotkick past Edness. Mills also laid on the sixth goal a couple of minutes later when his low cross from the left wasn't collected by the keeper and Simons applied the finishing touches from close range.
