While it was far from being a championship performance, Premier Division leaders Dandy Town still had sufficient strength to brush aside last place Hamilton Parish at Wellington Oval.

A last minute goal from Angelo Cannonier made the score look closer, but it was a contest that Town dominated.

Town earned the three points on the strength of an own goal in the first half by centre-back Robert Somner after just eight minutes and then got the second after 60 minutes when Lashun Dill scored.

The visitors must be thanking their lucky stars that they picked the last place team to give one of their most sluggish performances against ¿ even the usually high-performing forward Raymond Beach was not up to his usual standards.

Yet Town were still superior enough to beat opponents who were unable to show any of the form which inspired them to a surprise 1-0 victory over Boulevard in the FA Cup a week ago.

Goalkeeper Niegl Burgess was once again solid but for many of his team-mates it was a day they would most like to forget.

Parish started off badly when defender Somner's wayward back pass missed Burgess and sailed into goal to put Town ahead.

Town were rarely troubled by the home team, and dominated proceedings, but too often a sloppy pass, particularly from Dill, let them down.

Once Dill smartly beat two defenders but put his angled shot from 14 yards high, then moments later Damon Ming on the left wing crossed for Kevin Hurdle in the middle but his partially hit shot was easily grabbed by goalkeeper Burgess.

Between these chances Beach worried the defence with some timely attacks but often held onto the ball too long and eventually lost possession.

Town resumed the second half in control but allowed Parish to create a couple of isolated chances, with Jamie Smith wasting the best of these when he fired over from just six yards out.

Beach and Jared Peniston responded inkind, and the inevitable second arrived on the hour mark when Ming crossed from the right to find Dill unmarked, the tall forward stroking the ball home from close range.

Even at 2-0 down Parish might have got back into the game, with Cannonier twice being denied by goalkeeper Mikkail Crockwell. Eventually he made a chance tell, but by then there was little more than a minute left, and it was all too little, too late.
