Skipper wins title in finals

Skipper Ingham, founder of Bermuda Karate Institute, placed first in mens’ over 40 forms at John Chung’s World Cup Finals Martial Arts Championship held at the weekend in Reston, Virginia near Washington.It was the tenth time Ingham has competed at the event. Runner-up was Dmitriy Krevs of Moscow, Russia. Ingham, 80, did not contest the Grand Championship among winners of the other black belt divisions, which he had won in 2003. Promoter John Chung first came to Bermuda in 1980 as a competitor at the Bermuda Invitational Grand Championships (BIG), a professional martial arts tournament which Ingham hosted from 1980 to 1984.Chung has revisited Bermuda many times and will be returning for the Bermuda Open Karate Championships on April 17. A former national champion in forms and fighting, Chung is a student of Jhoon Rhee, who popularised tae kwon do in the USA.
