Walker out to extend side's run
Takeyhi Walker has urged Boulevard to continue their encouraging start to the new year when they tackle struggling Somerset Eagles in the Premier Division at BAA Field tonight.Blazers are unbeaten in 2011 having convincingly defeated bottom side Devonshire Colts before pulling off an impressive away draw against defending champions Dandy Town last weekend. And Walker, who is playing through the pain barrier having not fully recovered from a longstanding ankle injury, is confident they can build on their good form against lowly Eagles.“We’re going into the game expecting to win, we’re starting to get better numbers at training and we’re starting to play more as a team,” said Walker. “I have a lot of confidence in my team ahead of our game against Eagles.“We’re looking to get more points in the second half of the season compared to the amount we managed during our bad first half of the season.”Eagles may be just one point above the relegation zone but Walker knows the West Enders have a talented crop of young players who can hurt Blazers.“You don’t always know what to expect from Eagles, but they have some very good players like Troy Tucker who has just returned from Under-20 national duty and numerous other youngsters who are comfortable on the ball,” he said. “But if we play like we can do then I’m very confident of a Boulevard win.”Since re-signing Robert Wilson Blazers have looked more solid in defence and Walker believes Wilson’s extra experience is partly behind their recent improvement.“Robert’s experience and patience at the back has been a big plus for us. He’s a very disciplined defender and we really needed that,” Walker added.
