History maker Ajani Burchall makes Bournemouth debut

Bermudian teenager Ajani Burchall made history today in the Sky Bet Championship as the third youngest player to make his debut for Bournemouth.

Burchall, who turned 16 on November 5, got on from the substitutes’ bench for the final three minutes of a thumping 5-0 home win over Huddersfield Town.

The former Bermuda Under-15 forward, who only last year was offered a pre-scholarship agreement in the Bournemouth academy set-up, has impressed mightily at age-group level and got his chance when manager Jason Tindall needed to fill the void in the first-team squad left by injuries to Joshua King and Arnaut Danjuma.

Bournemouth kept their noses just in front of three teams chasing leaders Norwich City, with Dominic Solanke settling nerves in front of fans at the Vitality Stadium for the first time since February.

The big striker notched a pair inside the opening 13 minutes, then David Brooks scored to provide a 3-0 half-time lead and put the result beyond doubt.

With further goals in the second half through Junior Stanislas and Sam Surridge, manager Tindall seized on the perfect opportunity to introduce his young Bermudian winger.

Burchall, who a week previously had been helping the under-18s to a 4-2 win away to Portsmouth in the EFL Youth Alliance, took the place of Stanislas and saw enough of the ball in the closing stages to win two free kicks.
