Wasteful Village settle for draw

Commercial A table-toppers North Village blew a hatful of chances but ground out a 1-1 draw against Robin Hood on Saturday.

Hood?s Kenny Dill buried a first-half penalty. Misfiring Rams put on the pressure in the second period but just couldn?t make it pay and needed a Tillman Darrell spot-kick to earn a point.

Meanwhile reigning champs Key West are snapping at Village?s heels after easing to a comfortable 3-1 win over Lobster Pot with goals from Leroy Stevens, Sergio Griffin and Quinton Burgess. With five minutes left Torriano Trott notched from close range for a consolation goal for Pot who had Marek Noha sent off.

BAA lie third after a dour draw with MR Onions who took the lead after 25 minutes when Colin Keane broke free down the right and pulled the ball back for Eoghan O?Dwyer to score.

BAA equalised just before half-time when Tommy Gribbon powered in a volley from a Martin Jones cross. The best opportunity of the second-half fell to Onions but Keane headed wide.

Fourth-placed Dandy Town Roots strolled to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Island XI at St. John?s Field. Darron Simons completed a fine flowing Roots move while Mark Trott forced the ball home just before the break.

Trott got another in the second half after working a neat one-two, before driving the ball into the top corner. Island XI?s Kamal Sheeheed beat the offside trap to tuck the ball around the advancing Root?s keeper but Root?s Lorenzo Simons finished off another neat move to make it four for Roots.

Elsewhere, pitch problems led to the postponement of the PHC/Tuff Dogs clash. Unbeaten B Division table-toppers St. George?s cruised to a 4-1 victory against Somerset Bridge Peskies in a lively encounter at White Hill. Brent Minors grabbed another double while Kenneth Bartram and Delbert Minors piled in with Eddie Callendar notching for Peskies.

Second-placed Somerset Extros were forced to postpone their game against Boulevard because of a pole collapse at Somerset Cricket Club.

Valley picked up a 3-0 walk-over against Prospect/Fire while Vasco lost to Devonshire All Stars 2-1 on Saturday.

A much-improved All-Stars held firm at the back while Vasco squandered several one on one opportunities. They were made to pay when a miscue by the Vasco ?keeper allowed All-Stars striker William Benjamin to walk the ball into the net. The second goal came from a long punt which Jeff Richardson gobbled up. Vasco halved the deficit with a second half Bo Saggar free kick.

Devonshire All-Stars and Pest Control shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Philip Clarke and Dwayne Bean where on target for fourth-placed Lions while Jamie Matthews and Aaron Brown netted for Pest Control.

In the four-team C division, MR Onions Real Men are within grasping distance of the title after second-placed Wolves turned up short-handed and conceded the game ? leaving unbeaten Onions six points clear with two games to go.
