The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. at a Union Street, Pembroke residence.

Police attended the home and found a 43-year-old man suffering from minor facial burns who told officers that he and his wife were involved in a "heated'' argument before she threw a pot of hot rice in his face.

The man was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor burns and lacerations.

Police are also probing an incident in which a woman was allegedly assaulted by a man she knew.

At around 10.25 p.m., St. George's Police were called to Ballast Point Road, St. David's where they found a 45-year-old female with facial injuries.

She was taken to hospital where she received treatment for a suspected broken nose.

A 42-year-old St. George's man has been arrested.

MAN DENIES CHARGE CTS Man denies charge A businessman challenged Police in Magistrates' Court yesterday for stopping him for allegedly driving while impaired.

Edwin Baker, of Brightside Crescent, Smith's Parish, denied driving while impaired on Montpelier Road in Devonshire on November 29.

Baker told Senior Magistrate Will Francis he was not speeding or driving erratically when Police pulled him over.

He also said Police did not read him his rights before he was asked to take a breathalyser test.

Baker, who will be tried on April 15, was bailed for $500.

CAR STOLEN IN BURGLARY CRM Car stolen in burglary A Smith's Parish couple reported to Police that someone broke into their home on Monday morning -- and stole their car.

The South Road residents awoke at 8.15 a.m. and found their car had been removed.

The thief apparently stole the keys during the break-in and then left in the vehicle, a white Subaru 1800 station wagon with licence plate number 30518.

Anyone who can assist in locating this vehicle is asked to contact Police at 295-0011.

FORMER EXECUTIVE DIES OBT Former executive dies Retired international businessman Paul Compa, who headed Heddington Insurance Ltd. for 12 years, died on November 16 in New Jersey. He was 79.

Mr. Compa was president of Heddington, the Bermuda-based insurance subsidiary of Texaco Corp., from 1970 to 1982.

A funeral mass was held for Mr. Compa on November 19 in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three sons and a daughter.

MAN FINED $1,000 CTS Man fined $1,000 A 25-year-old Warwick man was fined $1,000 yesterday for possessing more than 15 grams of cannabis and cannabis resin.

Christopher Michael Smith, of St. Mary's Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the charge which stemmed from an incident on September 25.

Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Smith was being detained in Hamilton Police Station on that day for an unrelated offence when he was searched.

Police found 2.7 grams of cannabis and 13.4 grams of cannabis resin in the pockets of his jeans.

INTRUDER DISTURBED CRM Intruder disturbed The occupants of a Devonshire residence claim they saw the shadow of a man in their home early yesterday morning.

Police were told that the incident took place around 4.20 a.m. when the Dunscombe Road residents were awakened by a noise.

They checked the house and saw the figure of a man standing in the kitchen.

The culprit jumped over a 12-foot balcony to escape.

BOAT SINKING WARNING POL Boat sinking warning Due to the recent downpour, Marine Police are urging residents to make sure their boats are still above water.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning explained that a number of boats are floating "very low'' on their moorings and are in danger of sinking.
