A social inquiry report was yesterday ordered for a teenager who fractured a man's skull.

Michael Bascome, 17, of Radnor Road, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to causing grievous bodily harm to Eugene Madeiros.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Mr. Madeiros was approached by Bascome as he was walking to his car from Oscar's nightclub on Victoria Street.

After a short dispute Bascome punched Madeiros in the face and Madeiros fell.

Bascome then began to kick him in the head and then ran away, Sgt. Mouchette said.

Madeiros was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull and a lung contusion.

Bascome was found near the scene and was arrested.

Bascome told the court the altercation stemmed from an incident in the bar of Oscar's nightclub when Madeiros called him a "nigger'' and told him to leave the club.

Bascome said he told Madeiros he should leave, which he did.

But he said Madeiros waited for him upstairs and said, "What are you going to do nigger? Go ahead, hit me, hit me.'' Bascome admitted that he hit Madeiros, kicked him in the head, and then left.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis told Bascome that kicking Madeiros while he was on the ground was going too far.

"Punching a man who calls you a name is one thing, but kicking him in the head while he is down goes way beyond what is acceptable,'' Mr. Francis said before ordering a social inquiry report on Bascome.

He also ordered Bascome to return to court on December 16 when the social inquiry report is scheduled to be completed.
