18-year-old Paget teen $500 last week.

Daniel Smith, of Ord Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to possessing cannabis on September 30.

Prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said Police spotted Smith making a transaction outside Paget Primary School on Ord Road.

Smith was stopped and searched by Police who found 6.7 grams of cannabis in his pants pocket. The Bermuda College student said the drugs were for his personal use.

Sgt. Mouchette pointed out that Smith committed the offence near a school, an increased penalty zone.

Noting Smith was himself a student and that he was not selling the drugs, just purchasing them, Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined him $500. But he said: "If anyone is caught selling drugs outside of any school, the penalty will be higher.''
