Hind publishes apology for ad
Robinson before the November 9 election has placed a second advert.
And the tone of the latest "public apology'' ad paid for by Dusty Hind, who quit his post at Aardvark Communications after an uproar followed his last advertisement, is distinctly different from his last effort.
This time it is headed in bold print: "A public apology to Delaey Robinson and the people of Bermuda''.
It says "Delaey is right'' in asking for a public apology and Mr. Hind asks for his own "insensitivity'' to be pardoned.
It concludes with Mr. Hind saying he hopes the "slate can be wiped clean and that this painful incident'' can be "forgiven if not forgotten''.
Last night Mr. Robinson -- who on Election Day rode to victory in St. George's North on a wave of public uproar branding Mr. Hind's last ad racist -- was pleased at the latest development in the saga.
Hind's apology "I'm very glad that Dusty's doing this. Long ago I made the suggestion in public that he should apologise to the people of Bermuda for dragging the standards down,'' he said.
"Certainly I am very happy that he's doing it but also a bit surprised that it's taken this long.'' He said Mr. Hind told him of his plans for the second ad in a telephone call "out of the blue'' a few days ago during which the adman once again tried to apologise for placing the original controversial ad.
"I told him that I wasn't prepared to accept an apology over the phone. He did the dirty deed in the Press originally and so he should repair the damage in the same way -- in an ad the same size.
"This is a step in the right direction for Bermuda.'' Asked for a final comment to sum up his feelings of the whole affair he said: "Thank God this is all over.''
