Spirit of Bermuda briefly grounded
The Spirit Of Bermuda briefly was grounded off of St George’s last week. The educational sailing vessel had Whitney Middle School boys aboard when it struck reefs on January 18. One passenger was taken to the King Edward Memorial Hospital as a precaution.A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesman said the woman was bruised after falling.He added: “A dive survey in St Georges harbour on Wednesday revealed that only minor damage was sustained to the vessel “The vessel was able to continue her programme without any further problems.”Students from Whitney Middle School were on board the ship at the time of the incident for a five-day sailing programme.Over 1,700 young Bermudians have sailed more than over 27,000 nautical miles on the Spirit since the ship was launched in 2006.
