Rampant Hornets sting lacklustre Zebras
Goals from Dennis Zuill, Lashun Dill and Chris Anderson gave the Dandy Town Hornets a comfortable victory over PHC at Somerset Cricket Club last night.
With the howling wind and the intermittently heavy rain making life difficult for both sets of players, Town looked the stronger outfit from the outset, even if the early stages were marred by some poor execution in the final third of the field.
Chances were few and far between in the first quarter of an hour, although there was plenty of enterprising hustle and bustle in the centre of the park.
Anderson eventually forced a good left handed save from Raymond Glasford on 16 minutes with a powerful shot from 15 yards, with the subsequent rebound being put wide by Seyoum Tuzo.
This chance was swiftly followed by a wonderfully penetrating cross from the right from Otis Steede which eluded the retreating PHC defenders and whizzed menacingly across the six-yard box.
Somehow the ball eluded the unmarked Anderson by a whisker and a glorious opportunity had gone.
The Hornet?s striker turned provider not long afterwards however when, beating the offside trap, he squared to the onrushing Zuill who buried his shot into the net from ten yards with the goal at his mercy.
Far from being dispirited, PHC emerged after the break with a spring in their step, looking decidedly lively going forward and causing Town a few headaches at the back.
But just when they looked to be building up a head of steam, they went further behind when Town?s Dill streaked down the right before unleashing a shot which was deflected past Glasford off a defender?s leg.
All was not lost for PHC, however, and they found themselves back in the game through a Zuill own goal ? after the Town player accidentally diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper when stretching for a Dennis Russell cross.
But Town?s two-goal cushion was restored within six minutes as a terrific Dill cross found Anderson, who made no mistake with the chance.
Neither side had anything left to play for in last night?s encounter and the game fizzled out in the closing stages with both teams clearly already having one eye on the post-season break.: R.Glasford (S.Swan 45), M.Waldron, T.Russell, S.Smith, S.Lewis, D.Wilson, O.Shakir, B.Bean, M.Williams (M.Fubler 80), D.Russell, K.Lambe: D.Cymande, V.Hill (S.Darrell 55) M.Lowe, G.Gibbons, D.Zuill, S.Tuzo (L.Dil 65), O.Steede, M.Parsons, J.Peniston, C.Smith (J.Watson 73), C.Anderson.: B.Bean (PHC), C.Anderson (Dandy Town): D.Wilson, O.Shakir, K.Lambe (PHC) C.Smith (Dandy Town): Daniel Rutstein
