Premier Alex Scott praised the efforts of students who walked in this year?s End to End walk. ?Before us is probably Bermuda?s greatest resource, young Bermudians. It is an honour to be here. You distinguish us. You almost took over the End to End.?

Anne Mello, chairperson of the Bermuda End to End committee, said that during this year?s End to End walk ?we noted a large amount of youth who participated. We noticed three times the amount of children on the road, kayaking and on cycles.

?We were delighted when we checked the figures and found that one in five of all participants and one-sixth of all money raised was due to youth participation.?

Jeanne Atherden of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation and Youth Development said 58 students participated in 1998 and raising $7,000. This year there were 320-plus students from 14 schools raising $28,000.

The seven schools that raised the most money were Sandys Middle School, Whitney Institute, Saltus, Warwick Academy, CedarBridge Academy, Bermuda High School and Berkeley Institute. Bermuda High School captured the Youth Invasion Award, given to the school with the highest level of participation.

Accepting a plaque and $500 were Daisy Gould and Melissa Buckley. ?Bermuda seemed much smaller in a car than in a pair of sneakers,? Miss Gould said.
