Save the Deliverance

Dear Mr. Butler,
I am hoping that you can use your considerable influence as Minister of Culture, to persuade your party to help St. George's restore the valuable relic of the Deliverance.
With millions given to cricket, and even more millions given to football, to say nothing of the cost of tearing up the Port Royal golf course, surely the modest sum it would take to restore this valuable part of our history could be found.
This is one of the most photographed tourist attractions that we have here in Bermuda, and with our 400th anniversary coming up, it would be a sin to allow it to be destroyed.
Even if it was just kept for its historical significance, without the possibility of people going on board, it would be enough. I am sure the Town of St. George's would consider waiving the annual rental fee for the space, and once completely renovated, it would be no great undertaking to keep it in good condition.
As a man interested in history I implore you to give this request your support. In the final analysis, this investment will be well worth the few dollars it will cost.
Yours very sincerely,
LIDGE RABEN
