Jandi's Giddyup Go enjoyed a winning season's debut at Vesey Street on Sunday.

seven-year-old mare two wide down the home stretch to win in 1:13.4, nosing out Todd's Ebony. And she also won her second race in 1:15.2.

The only other double winner was four-year-old Bermuda-bred colt Little Bear.

He's had a mixed season but, under the guidance of Annie Sousa, won in 1:13.1 and then triumphed in his second heat in a blistering 1:11.4. Little Bear now moves up to the 1:11.4 to 1:13.4 time bar.

Diamondway, driven by Michael Compagnon, won his first race of the season, taking heat 12 in 1:11 to pip Direct Toy Boy (1:11.1) and Tell me About It (1:12).

Little Bear won the feature race in the first half of the programme, while Diamondway was the winner in the second half.

The fastest race of the afternoon was the Free For All heat, with Grand Shady winning in 1:08.1. Runt's Rocket, driven by Francis DeSilva, won the second heat of the Free For All in 1:09.2.

BRIDGE BDG Hundreds of bridge players from Canada and the US are in Bermuda to play in the 40th annual Regional Tournament at the Southampton Princess.

The week-long event started on Saturday with the Ernie Owen Memorial Pairs, in memory of Owen, who was one of the Island's bridge stalwarts.

The winners were Phyllis Byrnstein, of Springfield, New Jersey, and Ellasue Chaitt, of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Locals to place in the winner's circle were John Burville, with Joel Friedberg, of Scarsdale, New York (third), Bill Souster and Sheena Rayner (third in B), David Cordon and Molly Taussig (fourth in B), Eddie and Stephanie Kyme (sixth in B) and Pat Colmet and Penny Garrison (second in C).

In the Newcomers Charity Pairs, for players with under 100 masterpoints, the top spot went to Americans Alice Roche and Marie Maloney. Locals to place well were Scott and Sally Godet (fourth in A and B), Craig Hutton and Judy King (sixth in B) and Fran Mitchell and James Rawcliffe (fourth in C).
