England name touring ‘C’ squad
England ‘C’ team coach Paul Fairclough has announced his 16-man squad that will play Bermuda next month.The squad, comprising of non-league footballers, are set to take on the national team on June 4 at the National Sports Centre (NSC).The touring side, many of whom are full-time professionals, should give the Islanders a stern test in what will be an ideal warm-up for July’s NatWest Island Games.It will be the first match between the two countries in the one-off match.Fairclough is football director of relegated League Two side Barnet.He said his selection was made with next season’s International Challenge Trophy in mind.“With a number of players now too old for the next International Challenge Trophy, this trip will enable me to look at a few options for the new campaign to see how they fit in with those players still eligible.”Most notable of the names on the list is Luton Town’s Andre Gray who scored 27 goals in all competitions this season.Bermuda Football Association (BFA) President Larry Mussenden feels England’s presence will be a huge benefit to Bermuda in their build-up for the summer.Mussenden said: “The visit will motivate and inspire our young players on the Island.
