Trinidadians are proud to be joint hosts for the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean.

But perhaps none more than Bermuda national cricket coach Gus Logie who yesterday saluted those who laboured to help bring the world’s third largest sporting event to fruition.

Logie said: “The West Indies is hosting the World Cup and Trinidad is one of the islands being used to stage matches. And it’s great to see the enthusiasm and amount of work that has been put into the Queen’s Park Oval.

“They have really done themselves proud and Trinidadians should be proud that so far the local organising committee for the World Cup has done a tremendous job in making sure all of the teams that have been here have been comfortable. And so credit to them.”

The former West Indies vice-captain and coach also commended the World Cup hosts for their inspiring 54-run win over Pakistan at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Tuesday.

He added: “I think the enthusiasm in the West Indies camp will be good and the West Indian people feel proud to be hosting the World Cup in the Caribbean.

“Everybody wishes their team to do well and I think it gives the World Cup a lot more meaning to have the host team being involved for as long as possible. And hopefully they can go all the way.”

As for Bermuda, Logie stressed: “There’s no turning back and nowhere to hide basically. We are here under the international spotlight and have done everything possible to get ourselves ready.

“This is a big occasion and I think it’s up to the individuals to grab it with both hands, because I certainly would. And I trust the players will have the hunger and desire to go out there and give it their best.”
