Burch out of Games
Top swimmer Roy-Allan Burch dropped an Island Games bombshell yesterday, revealing he can’t compete in next week’s prestigious meet because of “immigration issues”.And he could be ruled out of the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona, Spain, which immediately follow the Island Games.“Unfortunately I will not be attending Island Games next week due to my pending US immigration paperwork. I wish I could be there to help the team but bigger things are in the works Rio 2016,” said Burch on his Twitter account, referring to the Brazil Olympics in three years’ time.“Lost paperwork. Mailing errors,” he added.“No competition is worth being kept away from these two. Some laws aren't meant to be broken.”A two-time Olympian, Burch lives and trains in North Carolina. He admitted he was frustrated at not being able to return to the Island but explained he had no option but to remain in the US until the immigration matters can be resolved. He is currently corresponding with the US Immigration department but until he receives the necessary paperwork he can’t compete outside of the US.He had been waiting to receive certain documents but suspects there had been mailing problems.
