Vasco back on track
They're baaaaack . . . ' For those who thought Vasco to be a ship firmly grounded on the rocks, think again.
PHC certainly are a side having second thoughts, after they fell victim to a resurgent Vasco outfit that made mincemeat of the First Division's top rated defence, eliminating them from the Friendship Trophy at BAA Field last night.
Kentoine Jennings, Earl Richardson, Irving Burgess and Franklyn Simmons scored the goals, however this was a team effort -- something missing in recent weeks.
"We built the first wall of our new house,'' proclaimed coach John Rebello afterward. "On Sunday (in a First Division match against Southampton Rangers) we build the second.'' Listless in three previous outings, Vasco finally erupted on the stroke of half-time through Jennings, who took a page from Michael Jordan's book on hang-time, rising to head home a Steval Arorash right-wing corner.
However, that was only the beginning. In the 52nd minute. Former PHC player and coach Sammy Swan broke on a lightning counter attack and was brought down by goal-keeper Jay Smith in the penalty area.
Smith was handed the red card by referee Stuart Crockwell and Vasco awarded a penalty, which Richardson converted.
Further insult was added in the 74th minute when substitute 'keeper Ellsworth Bean succeeded only in helping a Burgess cross over the line.
It was then left to Simmons to apply the final nail six minutes from time, Vasco turned on the flair with intricate ball work between Burgess, Shawn Smith and Arorash, paving the way for Simmons, who had come on to replace an injured Swan.

Someret 2, Somerset Eagles 1 Somerset marched on in the Shield competition, disposing of neighbours and arch-rivals Somerset Eagles during a tensely fought affair.
The young Trojans took the lead barely two minutes into the contest when Lamaul Crofton followed up on a forceful attacking move started by Curtis Grant, forcing the ball over the line from close range.
Eagles came back with renewed vigour following the break and equalised through Stephen Burrows in the 54th minute as Somerset goalkeeper Keenan Tucker failed to hold a looping cross. However, veteran striker Everett Wellman sealed the deal nine minutes from time, surging past his marker and tucking the ball under an advancing Tucker for the win.
