Western Stars' under-12 team picked up another victory on their Barbados tour, but not before overcoming some difficulty with a fast-paced wicket in their
Electing to bat for the third consecutive match, Stars' youngsters continued to find it difficult to adjust to the fast, dry wickets of the Caribbean.
In their latest match all but one of the batsmen were bowled as the Boscobel pacers had the Bermudians reeling at 54-6 before two late partnerships rebuilt the innings.
A 22-run stand between Phillip Thomas (35 not out) and Jacolby Robinson and then a 27-run stand between Thomas and Oronde Foggo assured Stars of reaching a respectable total of 99 in 24 overs of their 30-over match.
In reply, Boscobel were skittled out for 54 in 23 overs as they never came to terms with Western Stars' pace attack.
Jevanie Fubler claimed five for nine off six overs and Robinson two for three off four overs. Dion Stovell and Lemar Caines took one wicket apiece.
TRIATHLON TRI Mark Glusing finished 13th out of 350 competitors in a tune-up event for this weekend's British Columbia Iron Man World Series event.
The 25-year-old Bermuda resident clocked a time of two hours, 15 minutes and 49 seconds in the Crescent Beach International Triathlon in Vancouver.
Glusing said he did not push himself to the limit and was happy with the result in the event, which consisted of a 1.5-kilometre swim, 40K cycle and 10K beach run.
His girlfriend, former Bermuda resident Christina Baily, was 37th overall with a time of 2:25.43.
Glusing was preparing for the gruelling 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle and 26-mile run that make up the Iron Man.
ATHLETICS ATH Jennifer Fisher fell just short in an attempt to break her own age group world record in the women's 2,000-metre steeplechase.
Competing in the US National Masters Championships in Spokane, Washington, on Sunday, Fisher still won the gold medal with a time of seven minutes, 43.02 seconds. But the time was 1.02 seconds slower than the 7:42 she clocked in shattering the world mark for 36-year-olds two weeks ago.
Fisher also won a gold in the 800 metres, posting a time of 2:16.
