Offers welcomed for Blue Heron

Premier Ewart Brown has urged the British to pressure the US government into providing more coastal cover to stop drug runners.

The plea came during a top level meeting with Overseas Territories Minister Lord Triesman yesterday.

Dr. Brown said: ?We know a significant amount of contraband comes by water. Our capabilities are limited.?

He said he was following up on talks started under previous governments.

?I haven?t seen any significant movement. That is high on our agenda. When I go to Washington in the near future that will be one of the items.?

Meanwhile interested buyers are invited to submit offers for the Police?s former flagship boat.

The boat, which was gifted by the US Government in 1996, was replaced by the new hi-tech boat, the in September.

The Bermuda Police Service has now announcedis in the process of being sold to interested parties through sealed bid tenders.

Anyone interested can view the vessel outside the Bermuda Police Marine Unit offices at Barrs Bay Park, in the City of Hamilton, on Monday from 10 a.m.

The new boat is a larger, 16-metre, four-man craft, with a range of more than 400 nautical miles and all the latest communications equipment. including GPS.
