Premier leads delegation to African Diaspora Heritage Trail conference

The Premier and a party of delegates will be travel to Tanzania next week for the fifth International African Diaspora Heritage Trail (ADHT) conference.

The ADHT conference, which aims to educate the world on the cultural heritage of the African Diaspora, will take place from October 25 to 30. It will cover a range of issues such as tourism initiatives and policies as well as communication, marketing and networking strategies for Global Visitor Interaction.

Premier Ewart Brown said: "For the first time this pivotal conference will be held in Africa, going back to its roots. Half of the conference will take place in Dar es Saalam and the other half in Zanzibar. We are calling it 'An African Homecoming'."

For the first time, the conference will also include an ADHT Youth Summit, and students Tori Smith from the Berkeley Institute and Asha Caisey from Sommersfield Academy, have been selected to attend.

They are both looking forward to the "once in a lifetime experience", according to a Government statement, and will have a rare opportunity to learn about the African diaspora's history and culture and develop their leadership skills.

They will also have a chance to experience East African culture, dance, cuisine and music, and explore historic sites along the new "Ivory and Slave Route Trail" of Tanzania.
