New Governor arrives tonight
A ceremony will be held at the airport to welcome new Governor-designate George Fergusson to the Island tonight.Several dignitaries led by Deputy Governor David Arkley and Premier Paula Cox are expected to meet him as he arrives on the British Airways flight from London.Also in attendance will be the Chief Justice, the Leader of the Opposition, the Cabinet Secretary, the Regiment Commanding Officer, the Police Commissioner and the Airport General Manager.Government House said Mr Fergusson's wife, Margaret, has had her arrival slightly delayed due to medical reasons, but she will follow him here as soon as possible.Tomorrow morning, Mr Fergusson will officially become Bermuda’s 88th Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Bermuda Regiment at a swearing-in parade on the grounds of the Cabinet Office, beginning at 11am.Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony, which will involve The Bermuda Regiment Guard of Honour and various dignitaries.The previous Governor, Sir Richard Gozney, left the Island on Sunday.
