Cabinet Ministers Derrick Burgess and Michael Scott clashed in an angry physical altercation inside the House of Assembly building, according to eyewitnesses.Sources say National Security Minister Wayne Perinchief had to separate the pair when they came to blows in the kitchen during last Friday’s Parliamentary sitting.Witnesses reported hearing loud shouting from the Lower House’s Atrium at around 4pm, before the Progressive Labour Party colleagues emerged arguing fiercely in front of a number of politicians.“I don’t know exactly what was said, but I do know they were at each other,” said one onlooker.“I was actually kind of shocked. I didn’t know what was going on. The first thing I heard was loud noise, what sounded like chairs being knocked over and a loud bang.“Then they came into the kitchen and carried on. Minister Perinchief got in the middle of them and stopped it. Minister Burgess stayed, and Minister Scott left the room.”It’s understood neither of the MPs, two of the longest serving members of Cabinet, were injured during the incident, which was not reported to the police.PLP sources say Mr Burgess, the Deputy Premier, was angry at Mr Scott’s suggestion he was planning to oust Premier Paula Cox as party leader. Mr Burgess, Mr Scott and Mr Perinchief did not respond to requests for a comment yesterday.Mr Burgess was elected deputy to Ms Cox at the PLP delegates conference in October 2010, but is said to have been at odds with the Premier over matters including the Bermuda Land Development Corporation affair.He has publicly denied suggestions he is eying the top job, saying in a radio interview with Sherri Simmons on Magic 102.7 last November: “I will support Ms Paula Cox as long as she’s the Premier and, whoever comes next, I will support them.”Mr Burgess, the Hamilton East MP, was appointed Labour and Home Affairs Minister by former Premier Ewart Brown in 2006, before holding the Works and Engineering portfolio for four years until last November, when Ms Cox moved him to Transport.Mr Scott, the Sandys North MP, has held a host of Cabinet posts since 2004, under Alex Scott, Dr Brown and Ms Cox: Telecommunications, Health, Energy and Attorney General, before Ms Cox moved him to the Ministry of Government Estates and Information Services last November.
