On April 1st the bank will debit these local residents clients' accounts $180 for a semi-annual maintenance fee. This fee was previously set at $100 and in a letter to these clients the bank said this increase represents the first since 1987.
The letter says: "Please ensure that there are sufficient cash funds in your account to cover this entry in order to avoid additional overdrawn charges.
Should you desire, this fee could be debited from another source if you advise us accordingly.'' A spokesperson for the bank said the increase was on the fee for administration of individual (as opposed to corporate) custodian accounts, where the bank administers a client's investments sometimes in the bank's name.
The bank said it is the first time there has been an increase in 14 years and it was necessary to bring this fee in line with other fees levied on personal banking accounts.
