The robbers ripped a gold chain off one of the men and grabbed a wallet, Police said.

When they slowed to stop, they were attacked by several people standing on the curb.

The two men managed to escape to the safety of a nearby night club. They suffered slight abrasions as a result of the incident but were not seriously injured.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said he did not want to set any precedents because he viewed the offence of drunk driving very seriously. He fined Simons $350 and put him off the road for a year.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said Simons was seen riding on York Street in St.

George's and failed to stop at a sign. He was also seen swerving.

Police followed him to Barracks Hill where he stopped suddenly and fell off his bike.

Insp. Duffy said he smelled of liquor and a breath sample was demanded but Simons, a truck driver, refused.

Simons told the court he had only had "two quick beers'' and did not believe he was drunk.

But Mr. Francis said he ought to know the punishment was the same than if he had failed the breathalyser.

DRIVING DISQUALIFIED, FLIRTS WITH JAIL CTS Driving disqualified, flirts with jail A St. George's man who said he had been off the road so many times he "couldn't resist the temptation'' to drive again while disqualified was given a suspended prison sentence yesterday.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis also fined 26-year-old Ryan David Fox $500 and put him off the road for a further 12 months.

"I hope that makes driving while disqualified very distasteful to you,'' Mr.

Francis said.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the Court Fox was seen driving a car on Mullet Bay Road at about 4.15 p.m. on September 28. Police knew he was off the road and stopped him.

Insp. Duffy said Fox had a past conviction for speeding at 97 km and one for driving while disqualified.

Mr. Francis gave Fox a three-month prison sentence, suspended for three months.

"If you drive again in the next 12 months you will be automatically going to prison for at least six months,'' he warned him.

Fox retorted: "I really don't care if I do go to jail to tell you the truth.''
