Sculpture by Bermudian artist is stolen in UK
UK police are on the lookout for a statue made by Bermudian sculptor Desmond Fountain, which was stolen recently from a Kent garden.
According to Kent police, the statue — valued at £42,000 ($70,000) — was taken from the gardens of a house in Preston, near Sandwich, sometime between April 13 and the afternoon of April 15.
The 5ft bronze statue, which depicts a girl holding a bucket, has Mr Fountain’s signature on the bottom of the bucket.
This is not the first time Mr Fountain’s work has been targeted by thieves.
Two men stole an $85,000 statue by the artist from Elbow Beach in 2012, but the sculpture was recovered the following day.
And in 2008, Mr Fountain and his wife stopped a thief who attempted to steal a £5,000 ($8,400) sculpture from a gallery in Mayfair.
