Island's third current professional footballer with an English club.

The 18-year-old has reportedly been offered a contract by Second Division Luton Town, with whom he has trained for the past two weeks.

However, Astwood has now returned to First Division Preston North End to complete his trial period there.

If Astwood completes a deal, he will join Manchester City's Shaun Goater and Stoke City's Kyle Lightbourne in the English pro ranks -- provided he can get a work permit.

Of the other Bermudians training with English clubs, Tommy Carter appears the best placed to earn an offer, also from Luton.

The US-based midfielder has impressed Luton manager Ricky Hill, a former England player, to the extent where he has a deal on his mind.

Hill said after Carter's impressive performance in Luton's 1-1 draw at First Division Grimsby Town last week: "He was busy, controlled in possession and thoughtful. He's doing very well and there is perhaps a chance we could do something.'' Astwood, together with fellow Bermuda international Tokia Russell, began his bid to earn a contract with the Lancashire club five weeks ago.

Astwood and Russell then went south for a spell at Luton, where Astwood impressed the Hatters sufficiently to be offered a contract, according to a local newspaper.

But Barry McIntosh, the agent who arranged their trials, had promised Preston first refusal on Astwood, so has now taken him back up north to Deepdale for his last scheduled week in the UK.

Astwood was hampered by a back problem during his first spell at Preston, believed to have been brought on by the seven-hour flight from Bermuda followed by a long car journey from London to Lancashire.

But after manipulation treatment at a London clinic, the PHC front man will now be able to show Preston manager David Moyes what he can do when fully fit.

And at Preston he has joined another Bermuda World Cup player, Rohaan Simons, who has also flown across the Atlantic for a trial after completing his studies in the US.

The pair got off to an excellent start last weekend, as Simons netted two late goals -- both set up by Astwood -- to earn Preston's youth team a 3-3 draw against Newcastle Under-19s.

Russell has also trained with Watford, who are reportedly impressed by the fleet-footed wingback.
