Onions on course for 'double'
MR Onions have their sights firmly set on a league and cup double after they enjoyed a comfortable passage into the Commerical Cup semi-finals with a 11-0 thumping of lower league Dockyard Falcons.
Onions flew into a 6-0 lead within 20 minutes thanks to a Niall Baillie hat-trick and strikes from Matt Ashfold, Lester Pun and Sam O'Shaughnessy. Baillie added his fourth and Eoghan O'Dwyer got in on the act to make it 8-0 at half-time.
A second-half brace from Colin Keane and a second from Ashfold completed the scoring.
Falcons, who should be commended for their attitude and application throughout, almost netted a consolation goal when a well-struck left footed shot hit the base of a post.
Shock of the round was Tuff Dogs' victory over Dandy Town Roots after taking them to penalties.
Mark Trott and Darron Simons scored for Roots, who are second in the table, but a brace from Darron Xuerb tied the game after 90 minutes and Dogs, with just one league win all season, progressed into the semi-finals after showing their prowess from 12 yards.
Lobster Pot, who beat Prospect United in the FA Cup, also progressed to the next round of the Commercial Cup after beating B Division St. George's All-Stars on penalties.
Mark James put Pot ahead with an emphatic finish and his side were good value for their lead until a flat-footed backline allowed Lionel Cann to beat the offside trap and shoot past the advancing keeper.
Pot's Tom Cusack missed a penalty and the game finished 1-1 but his team-mates were luckier from the spot in the sudden death which followed.
BAA progressed to the last four with a hard fought victory over Valley. BAA took the lead after 20 minutes when Dave Gibbs headed home a Martin Jones cross. Both teams created chances with Valley hitting the post but the score remained 1-0 at half-time. Valley equalised with a superb volley after Adam Shaw had needlessly lost possession in his own half.
BAA retook the lead when skipper Chris Worsick coolly converted a penalty after a Valley player had handled in the area. And with 20 minutes to go, BAA wrapped up the win when, after great approach play down the left from Wayne Clapham and Pete Coleman, veteran striker Jim Campbell finished well at the back post.
