Government to immediately scrap its laws against homosexual sex.

Around 150 delegates to the annual International Lesbian and Gay Association conference sent a letter to Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan.

"We are extremely concerned with the existence of anti-gay laws in the Bermudian penal code,'' they said.

"The European Court of Human Rights, this April, ruled that the Cypriot anti-sodomy law violated the right to privacy held within the European Convention on Human Rights.

"It is with great concern that we note the hesitation on the part of the Bermudian Government to uphold the fundamental human rights of its gay and lesbian citizens, and therefore urge you to immediately redress this important issue.'' Delegates from more than 40 countries went to the conference in Barcelona, Spain.
