Covid-19: eleven new cases include three from BA flight

A total of 11 new cases of the coronavirus were identified at the weekend.

The cases were among 1,374 results that came back to health officials on Saturday.

Three cases came in from overseas – one resident and two visitors from the British Airways flight on December 13.

All tested positive on their day four test.

Three others were said to be on-island transmissions with a known contact.

The rest, among residents with no known links to other cases or travel history in the past 14 days, are under investigation.

The mean age of all new cases is 40 and the age range is 15 to 92.

A total of nine people have recovered from infection since the last update.

The island’s total number of cases is 527.

There are 242 active cases, with 238 under public health monitoring.

Four are in hospital, one in critical care.

There have been 276 recoveries and the death toll remains at nine.

The mean age of all positive cases is 43 and the age range is infant to 101.

The mean age of all active cases is 35 and the age range is from under 5 to 92.

The source of all cases is 300 on-island transmission and 145 that came in from overseas.

There are 278 cases classed as on-island transmissions with known contacts, 22 with unknown contacts, and 82 cases are under investigation.

A total of seven cases have been moved from under investigation to on-island transmissions with known contacts.

The seven-day average of the real time reproduction number is 1.21 and Bermuda’s country status remains “clusters of cases”.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, urged the public to continue to wear masks and clean their hands on a regular basis.

She advised people to avoid closed spaces, crowded places and close contact settings.

Ms Wilson said: “Our community is protected only when everyone does their part and plays by the rules.”
