Subversion
March 2, 2013Dear Sir,It is the objective of the Progressive Labour Party and the Bermuda Industrial Union to bring down the present government — not by the power of the vote (that didn’t work the last time), but by subversion. Having brought our Island to the brink of ruin, the PLP was voted out of power by a majority of the people. Not to worry; with hardly a missed step, they are now working behind the scenes to bring the government down by recruiting the disenfranchised, the gullible, the mischief makers, and the selfish. Arguments used by the Opposition and some of their supporters do not hold up to scrutiny, nor do they make sense in the light of the past 14 years.1. The BIU is quoted as saying they are ‘not involved’ with the planned march by a small group calling themselves ‘Concerned Bermudians’ (Royal Gazette, Friday March 1, 2013) but it urges its members to participate. That is being involved.2. Christopher Famous lectures the Premier that Mr Cannonier appointed Mr Fahy and Mr Branco and they were not elected by the people of Bermuda. So what? What point is Mr Famous trying to make? Am I right in thinking that Lt Col Burch was head of Immigration at a time when he was not elected by the people? And there are many more instances of weak and pathetic arguments but when they don’t work, then bring on the anger and justify it by being ‘concerned’.I now have to ask more questions. Where were the ‘Concerned Bermudians’ when our national debt reached over $1 billion; a debt that our children and their children might be burdened with? Where were the ‘Concerned Bermudians’ when a past Premier told us he had to lie to us? (Where was the placard and its holder then, in the photograph on the front page of today’s Royal Gazette), the one that stated ‘…. Lies, lies, lies + more lies’? Where were the ‘Concerned Bermudians’ when the PLP refused to answer awkward questions about the missing millions? Where were the ‘Concerned Bermudians’ when cronyism and back room deals were made by the PLP? Where were ‘Concerned Bermudians’ then — and oh so many more instances of incompetence and greed that brought the island to the state it is now in?What is wrong with letting the One Bermuda Alliance get on with their governing — and when they fail, why then the PLP will win the next election and bring us happily and prosperously into all that life owes us! What is wrong with that? Silly question; the OBA just might do a better job and the PLP would not win the next election. And that is why it is the objective of the PLP and BIU to bring down the present government — not by the power of the vote but by subversion.MARK EMMERSONPembroke
