White’s Warwick building for sale at $7.6m
The White’s supermarket property in Warwick has been put on the market for $7.64 million by its owners.The Middle Road property consists of the supermarket building and land and also a 920-square foot building and a lot across the road.White’s supermarkets in Southside and Warwick were closed down in August after Supreme Court orders to wind them up. A total of 33 creditors came forward in support of the winding-up petitions.Bermuda Land Development Company has been trying to find a new tenant to lease the former Southside White’s in St David’s. And an industry source said a local food business was looking to take over the former Hayward’s grocery store in Warwick.KPMG were appointed joint provisional liquidators of White and Sons Ltd, White’s at Hayward’s and White’s at Southside.However, KPMG managing director Mike Morrison said: “We have not been appointed in relation to White and Sons (Holdings) Ltd that we understand owns the building that the White’s store in Warwick previously operated from.“We are aware of the property being marketed and assume that White and Sons (Holdings) Ltd have instructed the realtors listing the property.”The White’s Warwick property is listed with Rego Sotheby’s International Realty.“This Commercial Property being offered for sale consists of two buildings on two separate lots,” the Rego listing says.“The first is a four-storey building favourably located across the junction of Middle Road and Harbour Road, Warwick, sitting on 0.97 acres with a bus stop bordering the property. The building was built in 1967 operating, until recently, as a supermarket and pharmacy and comprises of over 32,000 square feet; a lower floor with 11,226 square feet; ground floor 14,273 square feet; 1st floor 5,282 square feet and 2nd floor 1,655 square feet.“There are 2 freight elevators, 2 internal staircases, 2 loading docks, 4 bathrooms and has parking capacity for 50 cars. Not only 2 large water tanks but there is also a well on the property and if needed has capacity to access Bermuda Waterworks.”The listing says the second building, included in the sale, is a Grade 1 listed building across the street originally known as Bishops Spencer School, which sits on 0.216 acres. This historical building comprises of approximately 920 square feet.
