Saltus Grammar School is celebrating the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Examination Results this year.Several of the Saltus Primary and Secondary students have received Distinctions and Merits in their Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams.Young Observer met up with some of the youth musicians and asked them what they liked about music.“Music gives us a chance to express ourselves,” said 10-year-old Jesse Williams, who achieved a Distinction in her Grade 2 Viola Exam. “I have been playing viola for about 2 years now.”Meanwhile, Alexander Southern, also 10, who got a Distinction ABRSM Grade 1 Trombone, said: “It is fun to play!”Gabriel Jones, achieved a Distinction in ABRSM Grade 5 Violin Exam, and was also named the Menuhin Scholarship winner, 2013-14.“I really enjoy playing the violin, especially being able to perform in the Saltus Secondary Orchestra, and the Menuhin Youth Orchestra with so many other children,” said the 11-year-old.“Even though the violin can be a difficult instrument, as you get older and put more time into it, you sound better and better. My Menuhin teacher, Charles Knights, has helped me develop the right techniques.”
