Russell targets trophy glory at boyhood club PHC

Dennis Russell (centre) has returned to PHC from Southampton Rangers.

Powerful striker Dennis Russell insists he is hungry for trophies after returning to his boyhood club PHC this season.Russell has decided to end his three-year spell at Southampton Rangers as he believes he has a better chance of snaring silverware at PHC, who finished runners-up behind Devonshire Cougars in the league last season. The 29-year-old, who was the Premier Division’s top scorer last term with 16 goals, played a key role in PHC’s memorable treble winning season in 2007-2008 when the men from Warwick won the league, FA Cup and Martonmere Trophy. And he is adamant his goals can help Zebras add some more trophies to their already well-stocked cabinet this time around,“It feels great to go back to my boyhood club, they have received me with open arms and I’m just happy to get back with the boys and win something this year,” said Russell.Wishing his former club the best of luck for the future, Russell said his desire to win silverware had prompted his decision to rejoin Mark Wade’s PHC.“The decision was pretty simple, I wanted to be around players that have the same ambition as me and this, in my opinion, was the best choice for me to make,” he added.“Last season was somewhat of a success, we had reached a few goals and stayed up which was the most important thing.“I can’t say anything bad about Rangers and wish them the best going forward.”PHC have been busy in the transfer market this summer, picking up Malachi Jones and Jensen Rogers from Somerset Trojans, Jahnai Raynor from Prospect United, Chioke Hewey from Robin Hood, and Daren Usher from Wolves. With the talent they already possess in the form of Bermuda internationals Cecoy Robinson and Shakir Smith, Russell is confident PHC can be a force to be reckoned with.“Things are looking up at the club, I’m a little bit fitter so I want to really get the club over the final hurdle this year and get them back to the top of the Premier Division,” Russell said.“There isn’t any pressure on me because scoring goals is a striker’s job so that is what is required from me to help the team.“I love the game so there will never be any pressure on me.”Russell was close to netting 30 goals last season, banging in 27 in all competitions. The last player to break the 30-goal barrier in the Premier Division was former PHC coach Kyle Lightbourne who achieved the feat in the early 1990s.
