?Gruesome attack? on woman riding motorcycle

A woman was left with serious neck and face wounds after being slashed from the roadside while riding her motorcycle.

The 24-year-old Warwick woman was travelling slowly due to the heavy rain along Middle Road at 7.35p.m. on Thursday, near the junction with Longford Road in Warwick, when a man walking in the east-bound lane lashed out at her with an unidentified object.

She was struck several times in the face, knocking her off her cycle. Her attacker escaped despite the efforts of a passing motorist to detain him.

The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with ?deep lacerations to her face and neck,? said a Police spokesman.

?This is a gruesome attack on an innocent member of our community,? continued the spokesman.

?We are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area or who has information to get in contact us with us immediately.?

The suspect is described as dark-skinned, 5ft 10ins, weighing approximately 160 pounds and was wearing baggy blue jeans and a white jacket. He is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s with short hair.
