7-4 victory over BAA in a make-up match on Saturday.

Stars, the only unbeaten team in the league with a 16-0 record, can assume the top spot over champions Hamilton Parish I, with a result against Prison Officers in their other outstanding match tonight.

On Saturday, new national champion Dexter Smith had three singles victories and Andrew Smith and Craig Trott two apiece as Stars forged into a commanding 7-2 lead after singles play.

To their credit, BAA dug deep to win both doubles match, which were close. But before then Trott came back from a month-long absence through illness and injury, started the victory march with a convincing win over Mike Lindo.

He would later score a rare win over Dave Waltham after being dominated in the first game.

Andrew Smith's win over Waltham was a career first and he later confirmed his recent good form with a solid performance against Mike Lindo.

Dexter Smith's singles outing was highlighted by his third straight victory this season over Nick Frost, the man he replaced as national champion. That came after enduring a scare against Lindo when he won 21-19 in the third.

Frost had the only singles wins for BAA and their effort in the doubles has to give them added hope for a probable semifinal showdown in the Challenge Cup between the two this Thursday.

The quarter-finals will be played tonight with Stars hosting Prison Officers, BAA at home to Cleveland, West Indian Association taking on Parish I and Southampton Princess entertaining Parish II.

Make-up schedule Cleveland v Southampton Princess (Feb. 12); Southampton Princess v BPSA (Feb.

16); Prison Officers v Southampton Princess (Feb. 23).
