Yachts crowd St. George's Harbour
weekend.
Most of these are docked and moored in St. George's Harbour and are making their way from the Caribbean to the Azores or the East Coast of the US.
Approximately 300 yachts stop off in Bermuda for rest and repairs during their annual migration north for the summer. To get 100 all in one weekend is "unusual'', according to Harbour Radio spokesmen.
Some of the regular cruise and cargo ships calling at Bermuda were delayed by bad weather in the early part of this week.
The Oleander arrived on Monday instead of Sunday from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey carrying 140 dry containers, 41 refrigerated containers, 39 cars, one bus, one truck and five trailers containing structural steel. She sailed yesterday, heading back to New Jersey.
Meyer Agencies' cargo ship, Somers Isles , arrived from Florida on Monday morning with 107 containers including 9 refrigerated containers, two boats and a van. She is discharging in Hamilton and will sail back to Florida on Thursday.
The Norwegian Crown was due in St. George's at 7 a.m. on Monday but did not arrive until 2.15 p.m. She has 918 passengers aboard and shifted to Hamilton Tuesday morning. The ship will head back to New York Thursday afternoon.
Bad weather also delayed the Zenith which arrived from New York at 12.50 p.m.
on Monday, some six hours behind schedule. One thousand, three hundred and ninety one passengers spent two days in Hamilton before the ship moves to Penno's Wharf St. George's this morning. She departs for home tomorrow afternoon.
Yesterday morning saw the arrival of the Norwegian Majesty in St. George's at Ordnance Island. She has 1,456 passengers and arrived from Boston on time. She will sail back to Boston on Friday.
The Celebrity vessel, Horizon , is delayed as a result of a medical evacuation. She should berth at Dockyard this morning, arriving from Baltimore with 1,331 passengers aboard. The ship will go to No. 6 Dock in Hamilton on Thursday afternoon before sailing back to Baltimore on Friday afternoon.
John S. Darrell reports the Nordic Empress was due to berth in St. George's at 9.30 yesterday morning. She entered Bermuda waters at 11.30 a.m. headed for Dockyard. She will still shift to Hamilton on schedule this morning and returns to New York on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile the cargo ship Coral Acropora sailed in to discharge liquid propane at the oil docks.
Meyer's other cargo vessel, the Bermuda Islander , is due tomorrow from Salem, New Jersey with 139 containers including 23 refrigerated containers and three trucks. She will return to New Jersey on Friday.
A car ship the Camellia Ace handled by Harnett & Richardson will be arriving tomorrow from Freeport, Bahamas.
She will be discharging 132 units of cars and trucks and 19 packages of spare parts at No. 7 dock in Hamilton. She will set sail for Vitoria, Brazil the same day.
