Amount of money in circulation falls
The amount of cash in circulation over Cup Match will be $130.8 million - more than $10 million down on last year’s figure, according to the Bermuda Monetary Authority.A press release from the BMA said: “The amount of Bermuda Dollar notes and coins in circulation over the coming holiday weekend will be BD$130.8 million. This compares with a total of BD$ 141.3 million at the same period last year, a decrease of eight percent.“The total amount of notes and coins issued to the banks by the Bermuda Monetary Authority between July 1 and July 26 (the traditional pre-Cup Match period) is BD$ 9.5 million, up 30.1 percent from the BD$ 7.3 million amount issued during Cup Match 2010.“Cup Match and Christmas are traditionally times of the year when the figures for notes and coins in circulation rise sharply. This seasonal peak is normally reversed very quickly after the holiday.”
