Diabetes Association benefit from Saltus to Saltus race

Saltus from start to finish: Age group winners paused for a photo-op at the end of the Saltus-to-Saltus race held on May 17.

Sunday, 17th of May proved to be yet another hot and humid day when many of the Saltus community gathered to celebrate the annual 'Saltus to Saltus' run and walk.

Once again all of the money raised on the day was to be donated to the Bermuda Diabetes Association.

At 3.30 pm many Saltus students and their families came out to participate in this fun event.

The course was the same as last year, starting at Saltus Cavendish in Devonshire and going all of the way to the St. John's campus.

Over 350 participants, even more than last year, came out to support the cause.

Teachers or family members who didn't take part in the race still came out to show their support by cheering on the runners and walkers.

The fun continued once the competitors crossed the finish line on the school field.

There was a fun castle for the younger children and resting areas for the tired athletes.

In addition, the Senior Graduate Year Prom Committee put on a BBQ hoping to raise money for their Senior Prom.

The winners of the race were Neil de Ste Croix who took first place for the adult males, and Tracey Sutherland who was the winner of the adult female race. The first male and female students overall to cross the finish line were Charlie Keyes and Leah Wright.

Prizes ranged from trophies to goody bags and gift certificates for the first three runners in each age group.

The race turned out to be fun event for the whole family to enjoy and we are grateful to all the teachers who donated their time to organise this wonderful event. Special thanks to Mrs. Andrea Banks, Miss Samantha Turner and Ms Jennifer Titterton, of the PTA, for organising this race and to Mrs. Terri Durrant from Butterfield and Vallis in conjunction with Ocean Spray for providing the beverages at the end of the race.
