Jesse and Zander Kirkland will attempt to circumnavigate the Island in the fastest recorded time in a sailboat tomorrow in a bid to fund their Olympic dreams.The Bermuda brothers are challenging the public to estimate how long it takes them to negotiate the Island’s 36-mile circumference in their 49er boat with the winner receiving a $100 gift voucher from AS Coopers and Butterfield and Vallis. There’s a fee of $10 per guess.Monies raised will go to support the Kirkland’s run-up to next summer’s London Olympics, and cover the costs of world-class coaching, as they look step up their preparations.They will be updating supporters on their progress on their Facebook page, and will start the challenge from Hogfish Bay, Pembroke, at 11am.“Good spots to view us in action will be Crawl Hill, Ferry Reach, Fort St. Catherines, St. David’s Head, Spittal Pond, Horseshoe Bay, Church Bay, Whale Bay, Somerset Long Bay, and Commissioner’s House as we head for the finish,” said Zander.“We welcome any other challengers with a sailboat to take us on and are interested to hear about any past performances.”Anyone interested in logging a bet can call 236-0383, or email zankirkland[AT]hotmail.com and then pay by bank transfer, with the time in the memo.The Kirkland brothers head to California later this month to compete in Pacific Coast Championships and the North American Championships.
