Bishop-elect embarks on a ‘May 25 marathon’ of a different kind
As runners who took part in yesterday’s May 24 Half Marathon Derby spend this morning nursing aching muscles, Anglican Bishop-elect Nick Dill will be embarking on an equally challenging marathon of his own.Rev Dill will visit every parish church across the Island on a prayer pilgrimage ahead of his consecration as the new Bishop next week.Starting off at St James’ in Sandys, the minister will head east, calling in on a further seven churches and the Anglican Cathedral, before completing the ‘race’ at his own ministry, St John’s in Pembroke.Rev Dill will spend a short time holding informal prayer sessions at each church, and parishioners are encouraged to attend. A prayer book will be available for worshippers to write any prayers, scriptures, or their hopes for the diocese in the next phase of its history.Rev Dill said he hoped the pilgrimage would help bring the church closer together.“One of my plans is to be focused on unity within the diocese and working as a team,” he said.“There have been issues of division in the past and I am trying from the start to herald in a new sense of unity.“Because it’s not about me. It’s about each parish and each church and each member of the church coming together and working together as we go forward.“The consecration is as much about ‘us’ as Anglicans in Bermuda and as part of the Anglican Communion — our relationship with other Christian denominations here and our place as a witnessing community in these Islands as a whole — as it is about the consecration of a Bishop.”Rev Dill will be ordained as the new Anglican Bishop of Bermuda at a consecration ceremony at the Anglican Cathedral on Wednesday.PRAYER PILGRIMAGE SCHEDULE10am: St James’, Sandys.11am: St Anne’s, Southampton.12pm: St Mary’s, Warwick.1pm: St Paul’s, Paget.2pm: Christ Church, Devonshire.3pm: St Mark’s, Smith's.4pm: Holy Trinity, Hamilton Parish5pm: St Peter’s, St. George’s.7pm: Cathedral8pm: St John’s, Pembroke.l See story in today’s Religion section, Page 15
