The Environment Minister has appointed two inspectors who will visit Bermuda several times a year to consider planning appeals.

The first visit takes place next week and four minor appeals will be dealt with by Peter Cuming, principal inspector with the Department of Environment in England, and professor Brian Field, of De Montfort University, Leicester, England.

Their appointment is part of a review of the planning appeal process and is designed to make the appeals process impartial, fair and equitable to all.

Appeals are on a written basis or in the form of a public inquiry, and the inspector's report and recommendations will be made to the Minister, who will then make a decision.

To help local professionals understand the new process, a day-long workshop is to be held with the two inspectors on Wednesday at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

DRUG ARREST MADE CRM Drug arrests made Police made a number of drug-related arrests over the weekend.

During the early hours of Saturday, a 40-year-old Hamilton Parish man was arrested on Angle Street, with what Police believe could be crack cocaine and a pipe.

And during a search of another man on the same street, officers recoved a twist, also believed to be crack cocaine, which the suspect threw to the ground.

Early on Saturday, a man was caught after a short chase on Princess Street and found to be in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine.

Late on Friday night Task Force officers searched a derelict house on Union Street, Pembroke. A 49-year-old Pembroke man found on the premises was arrested after obstructing officers.

STOLEN CAR IN CRASH CRM AC Stolen car in crash The public's assistance is being sought in gaining information into an accident involving a stolen car.

A Police spokesperson said the accident took place on North Shore Road, Pembroke, 3.30 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of a green Mitsubishi hatchback, which was travelling west along North Shore Road, apparently lost control of the car on the sharp left hand bend by East Point Lane, hitting a wall and some steel poles.

No-one was injured in the crash.

Later, the owner of the damaged car reported the vehicle stolen.

Police want to speak to the owner of another green car, possibly a Subaru, who was seen collecting the driver of the car involved in the accident.

HYUNDAI STOLEN CRM Hyundai stolen A red Hyundai car, 04230, was stolen from the long term car park at the Airport, Police said. It had been left on Thursday, by its owner who was going on holiday, but had disappeared when a garage repair man went to collect the vehicle as arranged.

COUPLE DISTURBED CRM Couple disturbed Occupants of a house on Somerset Road, Sandys awoke early on Sunday morning to find a man standing in their bedroom.

The man fled after they raised the alarm and nothing was stolen.

The man is described as dark skinned, 5 foot ten inches tall, of medium build with short hair. He was wearing an orange polo shirt and black shorts.

WATER SKIERS WANRED SHI Water skiers warned A warning has been issued to boat operators after a water skier was stopped after being caught within 50 feet of the shore.

Marine police said water skiers must be 200 feet from the shore and there must be a driver and observer on the vessel. The man was stopped after he was seen skiing on Granaway Deep.
