after two enthralling matches at Tennis Stadium last night.

In one of the most evenly balanced draws in recent memory, fourth seeds Roger Marshall and Chris Harris battled into the last four of the doubles with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Vidar Lunoe and Brian Way. In a match of contrasts, it took Way, who has not played competitively for almost two years, almost two sets to get into focus.

Harris and Marshall won the first eight games, with Way and Lunoe breaking in the third game of the second set. They held to make it 4-2 and kept in front to take the set and level the scores.

But just as the large gallery prepared for an action-packed final set, it became one way traffic in Marshall and Harris's favour and the set was over in just 11 minutes.

Said Way: "Just as I found my rhythm they raised their game a notch and my fitness level just wouldn't allow me to keep up.'' In the other quarter-final, second seeds Ricky Mallory and Sam Maybury eased their way to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jan Jarmula and Leslie Stowe.
