Tenor hits high note in international debut
singing an Easter meditation on the passion of Jesus.
Jeffrey Halili, 19, sang tenor along with the Choir of St. Mark's in Stainer's Crucifixion on Palm Sunday at St. Paul's Church in Paget.
He was accompanied by Peter Nash singing bass, organist Lloyd Matthew and was under the direction of Choral Director Jean Motyer.
Jeffrey, who has been singing all his life, is presently studying with Bermudian Gary Burgess at the New York University of Buffalo.
Upon completing his BA in Music and Performance, Jeffrey said he planned to pursue a career in opera. His dream, he said, was to sing at the Met, "the mecca for all opera singers''.
Last Sunday's event was not Jeffrey's first performance of a religious nature.
"I've done a lot of weddings, funerals and other religious concerts,'' he said.
And during his performances, he said he had to focus on his work while singing emotional pieces so he was not "moved to the point where I forget everything''.
